Bone Graft 07-25-18 (Live @ Botany View Hotel)

Bone Graft – roots of everything from The Black Keys to Rolling Stones, with a little Beach Boys’ie (even Dick Dale) surf feel

Gig date: 25th July 2018

Venue: Botany View Hotel, Newtown, Sydney, Australia

Country of origin: Sydney, Australia

Members: Michael, Olly, Joahquin, Jacob and Broc (who couldn’t be there last night)

Support or headline: Support for Slow Nomad (Sydney)

Good crowd/bad crowd: Crowd was alright

Number of times seen band: 1

Crowd participation: The crowd was just happy listening to the music being played, I did see some starting to join in, by singing and dancing. Maybe they just didn’t know the words to the songs, as they were all originals?

Genre: garage psych/surf

Rating: 6.5/10 guitars

My review:

  • Songs are cool
  • Catchy
  • Work well as a band
  • Please introduce each song name before you start playing
  • Engage with the audience a lot more as you obviously have plenty of energy; so share it, and encourage it, from the audience too

Set List:

  1. The Odd
  2. Bone Graft
  3. Shut Ya Mouth
  4. Old Drunk Man
  5. Hold It Tight

This Sydney- based (originally solo) project launched in 2017 featuring dreamy surf sounds, punctuated by heavy rhythms reminiscent of the 1960s and 1970s music scene. With a release of a self-produced EP using only a mobile phone and laptop software, before growing into a five-piece band in early 2018.

Bone Graft produces electric sounds which draw from old school rock ‘n’ roll, lo-fi garage punk and contemporary influences. A hi-bred of sound that speaks from roots of everything from The Black Keys to Rolling Stones, with a little Beach Boys’ie (even Dick Dale) surf feel still lingering through a lot of songs. I liked it, it was cool but also uplifting and a great set. Thanks guys. Hope to see you perform with Broc back on deck soon.
