Captain Murphy, Flying Lotus’s rap alter ego, makes a grand return in 2026 with the release of “Mudhole ,” an original track for the Lionsgate film The Furious, in theaters June 12th. The track also features production by Little Snake, FlyLo’s Brainfeeder labelmate.
A menacing rage track, “Mudhole” sounds like the approach of something sinister. Captain Murphy enters on a cold flow, flaunting his power and designer gear amidst the din. Familiar sounds, such as a car unlocking or a cartoonishly dramatic wind whoosh, lose their warmth as they’re absorbed by the song, which bulldozes whatever’s in its path. Get out of the way or get sucked into the mudhole.
The track features a visual element created by Adam Fuchs aka Lilfuchs, a frequent collaborator and longtime Adult Swim animator who helped create the original imagery associated with the Captain Murphy project when it crept into the online realm in 2012.
The track offers the perfect compliment to The Furious, a story of uncaring, rage-fueled revenge. After the daughter of Wang Wei (Xie Miao) is kidnapped by a criminal network and he receives no help from the corrupt police, Wei sets out on a rampage to find her himself.
His only ally is Navin (Joe Taslim) – a relentless journalist whose wife has mysteriously disappeared. Fueled by a furious vengeance, the unlikely duo ruthlessly fights against the kidnappers in this explosive martial arts showdown.
Directed by Kenji Tanigaki, written by Mak Tin Shu, Lei Zhilong, Shum Kwan Sin and Frank Hui and produced by Bill Kong, Shan Tam and Frank Hui, Lionsgate presents, an Edko Films and Zhejiang Hengdian Film production, in association with XYZ Films.
