MIKAYLA GEIER’S HOT POT! EP OUT TODAY
TO SUPPORT MARINA ON “PRINCESS OF POWER” TOUR
HOT POT!, the new EP from rising Canadian singer-songwriter Mikayla Geier is out now via AWAL. The new EP includes Mikayla’s breakout single “piano in the sky” which has racked up over 7 million streams since its release in June and inspired a wave of viral creations across TikTok, Reels, and most significantly YouTube Shorts.
HOT POT! is a follow up to her 2024 debut EP here we go again… which has amassed over 6 million all-time streams featuring femme-forward single “paris,” earned her first Alt Nation advanced placement with “dance of the trees,” and introduced Mikayla as a visual storyteller with every release accompanied by a short film that she not only directs but stars in, expanding her songs into full cinematic experiences. Of the EP, Mikayla explains:
“HOT POT! to me was really inspired by this concept of unity and wanting to bring people together. I think for me, the way that I felt most together with people in my entire life is through food, especially in my culture, and then also through dance. I feel like dance is such an unspoken language that’s very universal, which is really cool. So it really inspired me to write a bunch of uptempo songs.
I really wanted music that you could dance to like at the club or with your friends, whatever. And I think as well, I’ve evolved so much as a dancer, where my first project was very ballet focused, because I was doing ballet, and now I’ve kind of evolved into, you know, learning oth er styles.
I’m doing heels. I started voguing, and you know, that resulted in, like me, wanting to put a voguing drum and dirty Shirley, and has really influenced the music and my desire to write up tempo music, so yeah, I think also just kind of in a more sentimental note, I think as someone who I know, I talked about this more on my first project, but like, had so many issues with food, especially from ballet, I think it’s kind of like a fun ode to, you know, hot pot is, like, one of my favorite things to eat.
I also like that it sounds like hot pop, and we’re eating, figuratively and literally, and I’m happy. And I think there’s a lot of like, joy and fun and unseriousness on this project that I’ve been really excited to capture.”

In the liminal space between plié and melody, where classical discipline meets untamed creativity, Mikayla Geier discovered her voice. She found it not in the expected silence of a rehearsal studio, but in the beautiful chaos of becoming herself.
Born in Vancouver to a tapestry of Chinese and German heritage, Mikayla embraced dance at three, following in her sister’s footsteps. Her hands soon found piano keys and violin strings before she landed at an elite Russian ballet academy, where dreams crystallized into contracts and her body became a vessel for others’ expectations.
When the weight of “not enough” threatened to eclipse her light entirely, Mikayla made the radical choice to step away from the stage she’d trained her whole life to inhabit.
What bloomed next was unexpected: business school, a ukulele, and the discovery that she didn’t need to choose between her identities.
The ballerina and the songwriter could coexist, could dance together, could create something entirely new.
Throughout her music journey she’s amassed over 23 million streams across platforms, 1.8 million social followers, and continues to release engaging short-form video content.
