Savanna Ruth – Bad Thoughts

Savanna Ruth Announces Debut Album, Shares “Bad Thoughts” Single + Video

Savanna Ruth today has announced her debut album Baseball Diaries, due out October 23rd via Easy Does It Records. She’s also released the LP’s lead single “Bad Thoughts,” which arrives alongside a Todd Diederich-directed video.

The album was produced by Scott Lucas of Local H and Blake Smith, and was mixed by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr, The Breeders, Red Kross). The track is a fuzzed out, sun-kissed ode to relationship complications and temptations, and is accompanied by a video which follows Ruth around on a Chicago summer day.

“This was written during one of the most confusing and emotionally complicated periods of my life,” Ruth says. “At the time, I was in the midst of a long-term relationship with my ex-fiancée. We were in the beginning stages of trying to navigate being in an open relationship, and for the first time I found myself developing a very real and intense attraction to another woman. It wasn’t just a harmless crush—it was something I thought about constantly, and it forced me to confront parts of myself that I had been avoiding.”

Filmed at iconic Chicago locations including Wrigley Field and Thillens Stadium, the video connects directly to the themes that run throughout Savanna’s forthcoming album. For Savanna, these weren’t simply filming locations; they were pieces of her own history. Thillens is where she spent summer nights and days playing Little League baseball as a kid, while Wrigley Field stands as one of the city’s most enduring landmarks and a symbol of the dreams, nostalgia, and longing woven throughout the record.

The result is unapologetically Chicago. Not because it relies on postcard images of the city, but because it tells a story rooted in real places and real memories. Every frame feels lived-in, reflecting the neighborhoods, traditions, and experiences that shaped Savanna long before she ever stepped into a recording studio.

For a song that explores desire, uncertainty, and the complicated emotions that emerge when relationships begin to change shape, Diederich’s direction grounds the story in something tangible: home. The video transforms familiar Chicago landmarks into emotional landmarks, blurring the line between past and present, childhood and adulthood.

Formerly writing music under the moniker Burr Oak, Baseball Diaries is Savanna Ruth’s debut release under her new name. The tracks were written during a period of enormous change, as she was navigating the end of a long-term relationship, exploring new lust and love, trying to understand herself outside of the life she had imagined for herself for so many years.
